To mark the opening of the creative space Veldze's summer program "Veldzes vasara", and in collaboration with Riga Art Week, a special screening of the music short film "A Dog’s Gaze" by director Ieva Aleksa will take place on May 29 at 21:30 at Matīsa iela 8.

This hybrid work blends cinema and electronic music, offering an alternative lens on Riga and the coming-of-age experience of its youth. The film is based on Bel Tempo's (Jūlijs Melngailis and Andis Ansons) mini-album Pessimismus, with Filips Šmits as the creative producer.

At the center of the story is Valters, a twenty-year-old from Riga, who navigates between the duties of a seaman, romantic entanglements, and daily routines while searching for meaning in life. Shot on 16mm film, A Dog’s Gaze reveals Riga through everyday gestures, fleeting moments, and familiar scenes, forming an intimate and emotionally resonant portrait of the city from the perspective of a new generation.

The film stars Kārlis Arnolds Avots, Ieva Estere Barkāne, Katrīna Juhna, and singer Elīza Legzdiņa. Its premiere took place at the Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF) in 2023.

Following the screening, at 22:00, the evening continues with a mini-concert by Bel Tempo in the courtyard of the former soda factory — a unique opportunity to enjoy live music and a summer evening atmosphere in the heart of the city.
