The exhibition “Vacation” by artist Oskars Pavlovskis will tell the story of a new stage in the artist’s life - becoming a father. In September of 2023, Oskars took a one-and-a-half year long parental leave, as the main caregiver for his son. Despite the misunderstanding of many of his peers and the unusual division of family roles in Latvian society, parental leave has been one of the most difficult, challenging, chaotic, but simultaneously the most beautiful stages of his life so far. The clash of sorrow, anxiety, joy and happiness of this period will be revealed through grotesque, sweet and at the same time scary drawings of children’s toys.
Oskars Pavlovskis is a visual artist whose practice is mainly formed from a long-term and practical study of materiality and form. The artist’s primary language of expression is drawing, which he often complements with sculptural works. Oskars uses analogue and digital tools in his artistic practice, consciously balancing contemporary art and popular culture.
Curated by Liene Pavlovska.
The exhibition is supported by the State Cultural Capital Foundation.
About the gallery
Part Time Gallery is an initiative of the art association “Persistence”, based on an interest in networking creative relationships and practical research processes in art, design and architecture. The gallery's title questions an artist's career as: a risky choice, an opportunity to take risks, a creative necessity, a bold choice, a privilege and persistence. The 2025 program of the gallery “Daļa laika” reflects the desire to talk about what is essential for artists and designers through the visual and spatial language of art, it leaves emotional and intellectual space for mistakes and successes.
