"This Machine" Bob Demper

For This Machine, Bob Demper ventures into the opaque world of financial systems and artificial intelligence. Inspired by the destabilizing potential of quantum computing and “Black Box” AI models, he creates an installation that presents a speculative journey into the inner workings of these inscrutable technologies. The exhibition draws visitors  into an evocative interplay of film, sculpture, sound, and speculative narratives that challenge and confront the implications of systems that even their creators cannot fully comprehend.

About the gallery

TUR’s main activity is programming three contemporary art exhibitions in the winter and three in the summer. Depending on the season, the presentation space, an integral part of Tallinas iela kvartāls, has a radically different character and this creates an opportunity for two very distinct series of exhibitions, each responding to the specific circumstances of the space and the conditions.  TUR's ambition is to complement Riga's contemporary art scene by working closely with their selected artists to create high quality, curated art exhibitions. Collaborating with the distinctive characteristic of the space - which refers to both the traditional white cube and the building's industrial past - artists are invited to create new work and encouraged to experiment beyond what might be their conventional practice. A small but dedicated team of artists and art professionals is there to support each stage of the exhibition process, from its conceptual inception to beyond its closing. Interdisciplinary exchange is also a primary goal of TUR and events are programmed that bring new perspectives on the ideas behind the exhibitions, seeking crossovers into different disciplines. TUR seeks to engage an audience beyond the traditional “art bubble” and is uniquely situated on Tallinas ielas kvartāls to do so, creating a low threshold for passersby and integrating a meeting place within the presentation space ideal for conversations, workshops and other forms of exchange. Finally, TUR looks to bring artists they work with to the attention of artistic platforms and institutions outside of Latvia with the intention of strengthening the artist's international standing and contribute to the position of Latvian contemporary art.
