ISSP School Graduate Exhibition “Pārnese”
May 29 – June 19
Tallinas Street 10, Tallinas Street Quarter (The Project House)
In the spring of 2024, due to renovations, the Latvian Museum of Photography was forced to move to a temporary location in the Art Academy of Latvia building on Kronvalda Boulevard. The cramped current premises of the Photography Museum, combined with the lack of formal photography education, highlight the marginalisation of photography and pose the question: “What role does photography play in Latvia's contemporary cultural landscape?”
In the exhibition “Pārnese”, 16 ISSP School graduates, collaborating with the Latvian Museum of Photography, explore this question through artistic practice. Under the guidance of curators Iveta Gabaliņa and Aleksejs Beļeckis, the works incorporate the archive's potential as a creative, emotional, bodily, and aesthetic process. Some photographers work with specific materials from the Museums archive, while others broaden the understanding of archive, viewing it as an imprint of collective memory and visual culture.
Artists: Agnese Upmale, Agnija Grīnberga, Aija Vītoliņa Freimane, Ance Rancāne, Annija Mangale, Bruno Vavers, Dāvis Šķēle, Elizabete Anna Jākobsone, Elza Gaitniece, Jevgēnija Frolova, Liene Ieviņa, Līva Arnava, Maija Sjomkāne, Niklāvs Kadiķis, Rūta Jēkabsone, Signe Reinholde
Two open discussions are planned as part of the public program: one on the role of the Latvian Museum of Photography and another on the possibilities for photography education in Latvia.

About the gallery
Project House is a special initiative of the Tallinas Street Quarter that gives young artists and creative professionals the opportunity to realise their projects, experiment and share their art with a wider audience. These spaces are available free of charge during the summer season to support independent artists in need of space for exhibitions, installations, performances or other creative events. The space gives young talents the opportunity to present their work, gain new experiences and connect with the Quarter's community and its visitors.
