Glass mosaic workshop

As part of the program of the contemporary art festival “Riga Art Week” (RAW), students of the Latvian Academy of Arts, Valdis Putniņš and Laura Ozola, will lead a glass mosaic workshop in which participants will create small-scale works inspired by the creative legacy of renowned artists - Kazimir Malevich, Christian Boltanski, Jan Koneł, and Maurizio Cattelan. The workshop will be based on recognizable images, symbols, and associations, which participants will interpret through color, material, and composition. Motifs for the works: banana, shoes, the black square, heart. The masterclass will offer participants the opportunity to explore the practical process of mosaic-making - from individual fragments to a unified image - while also encouraging them to view familiar symbols from a personal perspective. The workshop focuses on the question of how culturally and visually recognizable motifs acquire new meanings within the language of contemporary visual art.
