The exhibition From Muse to Creator. Women in Art invites viewers to explore the history and present of Latvian art through the perspective of women—not only as sources of inspiration but as active creators, thinkers, and masters of visual language. This exhibition highlights the contributions of women artists to culture, revealing both their individual voices and their collective artistic strength and diversity.Featuring powerful works by artists across generations—from the symbolist richness of Hilda Vīka to the expressive modernism of Džemma Skulme, from Biruta Baumane’s vivid portrayals to the minimalist and conceptual explorations of Ieva Iltnere—the exhibition offers a wide spectrum of styles, techniques, and themes. It also includes works by Milda Grīnfelde, Baiba Vegere, Laima Eglīte, Dace Lielā, Frančeska Kirke, Elvīra Pinnis, and others. This exhibition is not only a visual experience, but a dialogue about identity, creativity, and the transformative power of art. It shows how women—once depicted through the hands of others—have become creators themselves, shaping and rewriting the cultural landscape.
